Hypnotherapy Script: Control Room Visualization for ADHD (For Children)

Induction Phase

(Use a calm and gentle voice)

“Hi there, buddy. Let’s take a big, deep breath in together. Breathe in through your nose... now breathe out through your mouth, just like blowing out a candle. You’re doing great! If it’s a little hard to focus on just your breathing, that’s okay! Here’s a fun way to help. You can grab your favorite stuffed toy and place it right on your belly. As you breathe in, watch how your toy moves up, and when you breathe out, see how it gently goes down. Let’s do that together for a few more breaths, watching your toy go up and down with each breath. How cool is that?”

“With every breath, you’ll feel a little more relaxed. Let your body get cozy, like you’re wrapped in a soft blanket. Feel your arms getting loose and your legs feeling heavy and calm.”

“Now, let’s picture something fun. Imagine a rainbow-colored staircase in front of you. Every step you take down will make you feel calmer and lighter. Ready? Step onto the first step... feel your body relaxing. Step down to the second one... feel your mind slowing down, like it’s floating. Keep walking down until you reach the bottom, where something special is waiting for you.”

Deepening Phase

“At the bottom of the staircase, there’s a magical door. Behind it is your very own Control Room—a special place just for you. Let’s open the door and step inside!

Wow, look at this! The Control Room is filled with cool gadgets, buttons, and dials that help you with your thoughts and feelings. It’s all yours. There’s even a big screen showing your thoughts. Can you see it? On the screen, you can see all your thoughts and feelings—even the ones that make you feel a little distracted or fidgety sometimes.

Look closer, and you’ll see that each of those thoughts is connected to a button or dial. Some are bright and glowing, while others are quieter.”

Exploration Phase

“Now, let’s find the part of the screen that shows those bouncy, fast thoughts—like the ones you get when you feel super energetic, or when it's hard to focus. You can see them, right? What colors do they have? Maybe they’re glowing bright, or moving around quickly. That’s okay! Those thoughts are part of you, and they’re not bad. But guess what? You have the power to manage how strong they are.

Next to those fast thoughts, there’s a dial. This dial controls how fast your thoughts and your energy move. Now, gently reach out and slowly turn the dial down. As you do, watch the colors on the screen soften and the fast thoughts slow down. Feel how your mind becomes quieter, and your body starts to feel calmer. You’re the one in charge of how fast things move.”

When You Feel Distracted or Restless

“Sometimes, when you’re trying to do something like homework, listen to the teacher, or even draw a picture, you might feel like you want to move around, fidget, or do something else. That’s okay—it happens! But if you feel like you can’t stay focused, here’s what you can do.

Close your eyes for a moment and imagine that dial in your Control Room. Picture yourself turning it down, just like before. Say to yourself softly, ‘I’m in control. I can stay focused a little bit longer. I can stay still for a little more time.’ You might even want to imagine you’re a superhero. What’s your superhero name? Picture your superhero staying calm and focused, using their superpower to stay in control.

When you do this, you’ll feel like you can keep going, even when you’re feeling wiggly or distracted.”

Why Some Brains Work Differently

“Sometimes, our brains can feel really busy, making it hard to sit still or focus on just one thing. You might feel like you always need to move around or try something new before finishing what you started. That’s totally okay—your brain just works in a different way.

It might make it tricky to keep track of time, remember what to do next, or stay in one place for long. But with a little help, like practicing focus skills, getting plenty of play and exercise, eating healthy foods, and taking breaks, you can learn to manage those busy thoughts. And if it still feels really hard, grown-ups, like doctors, can help figure out ways to make things easier for you.”

Transformation Phase

“Great job! Now, over here is another dial—it says ‘Focus and Calm.’ When you turn this dial up, you feel like you have superpowers, just like your superhero. Let’s turn it up together. Feel yourself becoming even more calm, more focused, and in control. You can sit still and finish what you’re doing, because you have the power to control your thoughts and energy.

Notice how the room around you gets brighter and clearer, and how much stronger you feel. You’re the one who controls your focus, and you can change things any time you need to. Whether it’s sitting still, focusing on your homework, or finishing a drawing, you can always come back here and turn your dials to stay calm and focused.”

Reorientation Phase

“You’ve done a great job learning how to use your special dials, and now it’s time to leave the Control Room for a little while. But remember, you can always come back whenever you need to. Whenever you feel restless or distracted, you know how to adjust your dials and get back in control.

Now let’s walk back to the rainbow staircase, feeling proud of how calm and strong you are. Let’s start walking up. With each step, you feel more awake, more refreshed, and ready to do whatever comes next. When we reach the top, you’ll feel like your best self—ready to stay focused and have fun. And when you’re ready, you can gently open your eyes.”

Closing

“Wow, wasn’t that fun? Remember, you have a special control room inside. Anytime you feel distracted, fidgety, or want to move around, you can close your eyes, picture your Control Room, and turn down those fast thoughts. You’re the superhero of your own mind, and you can handle anything that comes your way!”

then you know the hypnotic waking technique 🙂
