Story OF Alex and CBT

Story of Alex and CBT

I would like to give you a  real- life example of one of my clients with her approval and consent.

Alex, a nice child who sometimes faced feelings of worry and negative thoughts  with no provocation. I explained it to the child in terms he would understand and be more welcome to. I told him about “Monster Thoughts” – these thoughts were like little monsters in the brain that make you feel yucky. With the support from Alex’s Parents, Alex started catching and containing those thoughts. countering negative phrases like “I’m not good enough,” with phrases like, “I may not be perfect, but I’m trying my best!”  and a positive mindset. As Alex continued to counteract  his negative mindset, the “Monster” thoughts started to decrease and even stop. Alex realized that by changing how those thoughts danced around, he could feel better. This is a scenario is an example of what CBT therapy teaches you to do. With CBT,  you learn to challenge and change  the negative mindsets you have and the thoughts that make you feel “yuck”

The difference between behavior and non-behavioral therapies lies in their underlying theories, techniques, and treatment goals.
